Spelling City
Spelling City is one of my favorite websites to practice math vocabulary. This website offers excellent vocabulary practice for your son/daughter outside of the school classroom. I strongly encourage your son/daughter to visit this site for additional vocabulary practice. This site is extremely user friendly and age appropriate. Throughout this website, you will find many quizzes and activities that focus on the content of measurement. Follow the directions below to access all that this site has to offer. Big IQ Kids Big IQ Kids is a great website for additional practice on vocabulary words. This website offers a free program which allows you (as a parent) to create your own custom word lists in three very easy steps! This website is customizable and extremely user friendly. The site automatically provides accurate definitions for the words you enter. You are entitled to enter as many vocabulary words as you would like into the spelling lists. You can then choose the activity you would like your son/daughter to complete. Big IQ Kids provides several examples for you can choose from. They include: word introduction, word jumble, spelling bee, spelling test, definition matching, synonyms and antonyms, and even a simple vocabulary test. Vocabulary Four Square
Vocabulary Four Square is a great way to practice, recite, and learn new terms. Within this form of vocabulary practice, you get learn each word through four different styles. You begin by writing a vocabulary word in the circle located in the middle of the page. The next step is to write the definition of the word in the appropriate box. Working together with your child, create a sentence that incorporates the new vocabulary word. Vocabulary to better learn the meaning of the word, have your son/daughter draw a picture of the new vocabulary word. Finally, the use of synonyms and antonyms will help to clearly establish the true meaning of the word. |

An excellent resource for identifying math vocabulary terms is with an Online Math Dictionary, such as the one created by Jenny Eather. Throughout the classroom, vocabulary terms can be displayed on a “Word Wall.” (Such as the one found below)
